Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and modify finite element models of tires and their components (i.e., rubber compounds and rubber-reinforced composites) using Abaqus or related FE code.
  • Conduct structural, thermal FEA simulations to predict tire behavior under real-world load and inflation conditions.
  • Analyze and interpret simulation results to provide actionable recommendations and design improvements to cross-functional design, manufacturing, and testing teams.
  • Collaborate with design and compounding teams to address their needs in actionable ways and help optimize tire products
  • Validate models with lab and proving grounds testing to continually build confidence in simulations
  • Support testing teams to develop and execute test plans for physical validation of finite element models
  • Document findings through presentations for internal stakeholders
  • Develop in-house proprietary modeling procedures that contribute to the continuous improvement of simulation methodologies

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree with a Master's degree preferred in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related engineering field.
  • Experience: 3+ years relevant experience in finite element modeling and simulation, preferably within the tire, rubber, composite, automotive or related industry.
  • Software Proficiency: Expertise with Abaqus or related FEA software and CAD software such as Catia or similar and the ability to rapidly learn new tools and processes.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of nonlinear and viscoelastic materials along with knowledge of scripting languages like Python is a plus.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple projects. Must have excellent communication and collaboration skills.

YRC and Career Benefits

  • Hands-on experience in a global product development environment.
  • Mentorship and training in specialized modeling tools and methodologies.
  • Learn about mining, port, and construction tires and their simulation
  • Contribute to R&D modeling capabilities and product optimization
  • Opportunity to contribute to impactful projects in the off-the-road tire segment

This role is ideal for an engineer looking to apply advanced computational methods to solve challenging problems in a dynamic product development lifecycle.
